Cheese and crackers

First off, apologies in advance for any grammatical errors in this post. The lonely bottle of cab sav that's been sitting on my kitchen bench has been calling me all day, beckoning me to be consumed...how could I possibly refuse?

So now I'm a little tipsy. Hungry and little tipsy.

Up until now I have been adamant that I will not go on a diet for the Big Day. I never understood why women to torment themselves, starve themselves in the months leading up to their wedding day, just so they would look good in their photos. I mean I can understand why, but wouldn't it be better to remember yourself for the way you normally are, rather than pretending to be some svelte, wispy thing when you normally aren't? (Am I making sense??)

But reality has set it. Weeks of eating nothing but instant noodles, Domino's pizza (?!!!), potato chips, Burger King, Oporto and the like, have taken their toll. My face has turned into a lump fest of oozing, mountainous proportions.

It's time for detox - salads, fresh fruit, organic produce to rid my system of all those nasties. (Though Oporto will be tough to give up).

So today I had a slice of toast, a small salad.....a bottle of red and some lovely blue brie and crackers. Argh! I couldn't help myself!! I need soakage for the wine, can't you see??

Ok, this is getting a little crazy. I've always believed in moderation. No matter what you have, as long as you have it in moderation, you're fine. Starving myself today was a bad idea.

Or rather, maybe it was the whole bottle of wine I just finished that's the problem.

God I'm starving!!!

Dinner and a movie

The Kath & Kim DVD I purchased on ebay arrived in the mail on Friday. As my brother and an old uni friend were both free last night, I invited them around for some beers, a curry and a movie.

I was a little excited about the evening as it would be the first time I would be entertaining in my apartment. The apartment at this stage is a little sparse - 4 plates, 3 pots, some mugs, a dining table with chairs and a sofa is all I've accumulated so far, but I figured they wouldn't mind.

I have to admit I was tempted to duck out to the local Indian restaurant to get take out, but I hadn't cooked in so long and I was determined to christen the $20-for-3 pots purchased from Ikea. I wasn't cooking per se, as I think anything coming out of a jar is cheating. But still, I'd never cooked Indian before so what the hell.

It was only when I started to prep the ingredients that I realized I didn't have a cutting knife. My beautiful Wusthof knives are in a shipping container slowly making their way to Sydney. So I just had to make do with the crappy "utility" knife in the cutlery drawer.

Some music in the background, a glass of wine and chopping up veges, ahhh...therapy if I do say so myself. Only that dicing an onion with a steak knife is damn near impossible. After wrestling with it from flying across the kitchen for a few minutes, they were done. A large dice no less but hey, it'll cook down anyway, right?

Some steamed rice, cubed chicken breast, chopped tomatoes, half a jar of tikka masala paste, a dash of yoghurt and some fresh cilantro/coriander later, and dinner was ready.

We positioned ourselves on the couch - cold beer in hand and warm plates on laps - and turned on the tele.

Oh the pain

Noooo!!!!!!!!

Here I was trying to be organized - rather than store the zillions of recipes I've collected over the last few days on scraps of paper, I thought I would be organized and store them in a Hotmail account explicitly for recipes only.

Only that in the craziness of the last few weeks, I have not had the chance to sign in to check. So I just signed in 5 minutes ago to find that.........they deactivated my account. So all the recipes are gone. All 5 years of collecting, gone.

Gone. Deleted. Removed. Lost in cyberspace.

Needless to say I won't be using Hotmail again. Ever.

Oh the pain!! :(

(If anyone out there has a recipe they'd like to share, please share it here...I'm signing up with gmail, right NOW!)
